Product Questions

Why should I teach my child a foreign language now?
Exposing your child to a foreign language will be a fun learning experience now and a critical investment in his or her quality of life for all the years to come.

In depth studies prove that children are uniquely and temporarily primed to acquire up to three languages before the age of five with no confusion. After this early learning window the brain’s plasticity diminishes dramatically.

Bilinguals, especially those who have acquired their second language before the age of five, demonstrate superior reading and writing skills, as well as advanced analytical and social skills.

Economists predict that knowing a foreign language will give our children a competitive advantage in the global economy.

How do these DVDs work?
Little Pim, an animated panda bear, uses playful antics and colorful video footage of real children to teach more than 60 conversational words and phrases in every 35-minute program. Each DVD is segmented into seven different five-minute episodes to facilitate pausing to reinforce the lesson with your child. All of the material is presented entirely in the foreign language, as the immersion method is proven to be the most effective means for teaching languages to young children.

Will my child be confused?
It has been scientifically proven that children are well equipped to absorb up to three different languages without any confusion between languages. Research also shows that bilinguals demonstrate superior reading, writing, analytical and social skills, and in fact develop greater vocabularies in their mother tongue.

Why is it easier for children to learn a foreign language than for adults?
During the first years of life, the human brain is uniquely and temporarily equipped for learning all of the languages in the world with the least effort. Especially infants are biologically primed to detect different sounds and nuances in foreign languages with clarity and accuracy. By six years of age this plasticity begins to diminish and the effort to retain new sounds or patterns not frequently heard begins to increase exponentially. For more information about early language acquisition, see what scientists say.

What if I don’t speak any foreign languages?
Little Pim empowers parents and caregivers with no prior experience in a foreign language to be the language teacher. Simply watch the DVD with your children, repeating the words aloud and then continue to reinforce the new words at home. Your involvement keeps your child motivated and engaged. We also recommend that you consult our Parent Guides.

My child does not use or pronounce words correctly. Should I correct her?
We recommend that you don’t correct your child’s pronunciation. Rather be affirming, and model the correct word or pronunciation.

Will Little Pim enhance my child’s IQ?
There is significant scientific evidence that links early language acquisition, particularly before the age of five, with enhanced cognitive abilities. Fluency in a language is achieved through frequent exposure and interaction. Little Pim is an effective and convenient means of exposing a child to a foreign language on a daily basis.

How can Little Pim appeal to such a broad age group as babies, toddlers and preschoolers?
Little Pim simultaneously engages babies, toddlers and preschoolers by offering each age group a distinct viewing experience modulated to his or her developing mind and interests. Babies respond to the colorful imagery and gentle pace. The kinds of activities the in the DVD are engaged in-eating, drinking, playing, napping-make it appropriate and engaging for toddlers. And preschoolers love to repeat the words in a foreign language and follow the antics of the series’ main character, Little Pim the panda.

Will Little Pim appeal to older children?
Yes, children learning a new language at school will find Little Pim to be an effective supplement for reinforcing vocabulary and teaching pronunciation.

Is Little Pim a language-teaching course?
Whether supplementing language instruction from a caregiver, reinforcing a foreign language preschool or providing a stand-alone introduction to foreign language at home, Little Pim is the most sophisticated language-learning tool on the market for babies, toddlers and preschoolers.
