Little Pim & Your Child
Why should I teach my child a foreign language now?
Introducing your child to a foreign language will be a fun learning experience now and a critical investment in his or her quality of life for all the years to come. Several studies prove that children are uniquely and temporarily primed to acquire up to three languages before the age of six with ease. After this early learning window the brain’s plasticity diminishes dramatically.
Additionally, scientific research shows that bilinguals, especially those who have acquired their second language before the age of six, demonstrate superior reading and writing skills, as well as advanced analytical and social skills – giving them a head start in school. Economists predict that knowing a foreign language will give our children a competitive advantage in an increasingly global economy.
Children who are consistently exposed from a very young age to the sounds of a foreign language are more likely to achieve native or near-native fluency in adulthood and have a much easier time learning other languages later in life. Simply put, learning a second language boosts brain power, even if the child does not achieve total fluency.
Will my child be confused by learning another language?
Children are uniquely equipped to learn up to three languages without affecting their progress in their mother tongues. Countless people grow up in multilingual environments: for example, many Swiss, Belgians, Canadians and Africans learn two or even three languages from birth.
In the first half of the 20th century, the prevailing view was that bilingualism and second-language acquisition early in life confused children and interfered with their ability to develop normal cognitive functions and succeed in educational environments. These ideas were reversed in a landmark study by Peal and Lambert that showed a general superiority of bilinguals over monolinguals in a wide range of intelligence tests and aspects of school achievement. Please refer to our books on page six to learn more about the many benefits of studying a second language at a young age.
Will Little Pim help my child's early development?
There is significant scientific evidence that links early language acquisition, particularly before the age of six, with enhanced cognitive abilities. Fluency in a language is achieved through frequent exposure and interaction. With language learning products that include videos, books, music, apps, and more, the Little Pim program is an effective, interactive, and convenient way of exposing a child to a foreign language.
Why is it easier for a child to learn a foreign language than for adults?
During the first years of life, the human brain is uniquely and temporarily equipped for language learning with the least effort. Infants, especially, are biologically primed to detect different sounds and nuances in foreign languages with clarity and accuracy. By six years of age this plasticity begins to diminish and then requires an increased effort in retaining new sounds or patterns not frequently heard.
How can Little Pim appeal to such a broad age group as babies, toddlers, and preschoolers?
Babies respond to the colorful imagery and gentle pace of Little Pim’s videos. Toddlers are engaged by the everyday activities shown in Little Pim’s videos and books, such as eating, drinking, playing, and napping. And preschoolers love to repeat the words in a foreign language and follow the antics of the series’ adorable main character, Little Pim the panda.
Will Little Pim appeal to children over the age of 6?
Yes, children learning a new language at school will find Little Pim to be an effective supplement for reinforcing vocabulary and teaching pronunciation. The flash cards, especially, are a timeless, versatile teaching tool that appeal to kids of all ages.
My children doesn't use or pronounce words correctly? Should I correct him/her?
We recommend that you do not correct your child’s pronunciation. Rather, be affirming, and model the correct word or pronunciation.

Using Little Pim Effectively
Tell me about the Little Pim curriculum
Little Pim is an immersion program designed to surround children in the sounds of a new language. Since the videos are theme-based, they can be watched in any order, but if you are using the lesson plans included with the Teacher’s Kit, we recommend you watch them in numerical order. The lesson plans are designed to help introduce the videos and reinforce vocabulary with playful, interactive follow-up activities that can be adapted for immersion and non-immersion classrooms.
How many hours per week should my child watch?
Our recommendation is for babies and toddlers to watch at least two five-minute episodes two to three times a week, and for older children to watch the whole volume set. It is best to expose your child to the sounds of the foreign language as often as possible.
What can I do to help my child learn?
Practicing along with your child will help keep them motivated – even if you are not a native speaker of the language. Watch the videos together and repeat the words and phrases aloud. If you know the vocabulary, you can comment on what is happening or predict what might happen next. Speaking and interacting while watching the videos will help engage your child and enhance their learning. You can also put labels on objects around the house or simply find and name the objects mentioned in the videos after each viewing.
How can I correct the mistakes my child is making?
Always model, rather than correcting. If your child makes a mistake, simply reinforce the word and show that you have understood them, then repeat the word with the correct pronunciation. You can refer to the videos or our companion guides and scripts for proper pronunciation.
What if I don't speak the language my child is learning?
Little Pim empowers parents and caregivers with no prior experience in a foreign language to be the language teacher. Simply watch the videos with your children, repeating the words aloud and then continue to reinforce the new words at home. Your involvement keeps your child motivated and engaged. We also recommend that you consult our Parent Guides, where you will find pronunciation tips and companion scripts.
How can I get Little Pim donated for a charitable cause?
